Hina Rabbani Khar: Pakistan seeks ‘memogate’ closure

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Khar, has admitted that questions about the strength of the country’s civilian government have been raised by the ‘memogate’ controversy.

Pakistan’s then ambassador to the United States, Husain Haqqani, resigned in November over claims that he sought Washington’s help against his country’s military.

He was accused of compiling a memo seeking US help to avert a military takeover in Pakistan following the killing of Osama Bin Laden in May.

Speaking to Orla Guerin, Mrs Khar said that she hoped a new inquiry would bring an end to the affair
